Yes, the petite, lovable French bulldog is now the most popular dog in the United States, according to the American Kennel Club's 2022 rankings released Wednesday. After 31 years at the top, the Lab dropped to the No. 2 spot.
The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) has determined 2021's most popular cat breeds and the fluffy ragdoll has held onto the top spot for the fourth year in a row.
The ranking—which CFA produces annually based on worldwide breeder registration totals—is not an official count of all the cats in the world, but a reflection of pedigree cats bred, adopted, and registered throughout the year.
While the top ten breeds are the same as 2020's, there are a few changes in their ranking.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) just released their annual list of most popular dog breeds in the U.S., and—by no surprise—the lovable Labrador retriever took the top spot for the 31st consecutive year.
"With their loving, outgoing personality and eager-to-please attitude, it's no surprise that the Lab has been able to continue its record-breaking run as the most popular breed in the U.S.," AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in the AKC's press release. "As always, we encourage people to do their research to make sure they are not just getting a purebred dog, but most importantly a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder."
